What are your card fees actually costing you?

Payment fees are quoted per transaction, which is exactly the wrong unit to judge them in. Put your real numbers in and see the annual figure, side by side across UK providers — plus what a tenth of a percent is worth to you.

Read this before you switch anything.

01

These are list prices

Published standard rates for online card payments. Above roughly £50k a month most providers will quote you interchange++ instead, which usually beats every number on this page. Asking is free.

02

The rate isn't the whole cost

Chargeback fees, refunds that keep the fixed fee, payout timing, currency conversion, monthly minimums and gateway charges all sit outside the headline rate. Compare total cost on a real statement.

03

Direct Debit is a different animal

For recurring payments, a capped Direct Debit fee beats a percentage card fee badly once the average payment gets large. If you bill monthly and your AOV is high, that row is the real finding.

04

Acceptance rate beats price

A provider one point cheaper that declines two percent more of your genuine payments costs you money. Measure authorisation rate before you move for a rate.
